When I started my career, I believed that my preferred way of treating was always going to be limited. I am very grateful to have a practice that isn’t distracted by insurance policies and poor treatment models. To see what makes Miller Physical Therapy different (and I believe, special), keep reading What The Average Physical Therapy Looks LikeIn my early career, my employers asked me to cram as many patients into an hour as I could. I was told that I had to see a huge volume of patients in order to make a profit. I was told, gone are the days of spending quality and productive time with each patient on a one-on-one basis Over the last several decades, physical therapy has been increasingly restricted by insurance companies. They either tell us that each patient is only allowed a small number of visits or they deny claims (even if the patient and therapist believe treatment is appropriate). Insurance reimbursement rates have also declined over the last several decades. In order to make a profit, many physical therapy clinics will schedule three or 4 patients an hour. The patient will get to see their therapist for 10 or 15 minutes at most. I experienced this in several different clinics I worked in. There were times where I had up to six patients at a time. When companies use this model, it means most of the patient’s time is spent with a tech or an aid. They would do exercises most of their time that they could have done at home. I would only spend a few minutes talking to them about their concerns. I would then work with them hands on for 5-10 minutes. For years, I thought there was going to be stuck in that model… for my whole career. The Best Physical Therapy in NYC For Patients![]() A few years into my career I stumbled upon several physical therapists that proved a different method works. Their practices focused on treating patients ethically and efficiently. They’ve shown that good treatment doesn’t have to be dictated by insurance company policies. It isn’t hard to see the value when you’ve experienced average physical therapy. We see all our patients on a true one-on-one basis. We believe good therapy requires three keys: - Excellent communication with your therapist - An accurate diagnosis - Skilled, targeted treatment If a patient receives a sloppy and quick 5 minute evaluation, most or their questions and concerns go unanswered and unheard. There is a high chance the diagnosis is wrong and incomplete. It then makes sense why many get frustrated in their treatment. Progress can only go so far if communication and the diagnosis are inaccurate. How Treatment Differs At Miller Physical Therapy![]() A typical one hour session with us includes thirty to forty minutes of hands on treatment. Throughout this time, we test periodically to see if we are improving your pain or issue. Once we identify what works for you, we spend 10-15 minutes identifying the best home program for you until your next visit. We find that many of our patients only need six to eight visits on average to recover from their injury or pain. Catching it early is key. Chronic symptoms may take a little more time to heal. All the same, correctly diagnosing the issue and effectively communicating and treating it is what makes the difference. Making Insurance (For Our Patients) As Painless As Possible![]() There are more and more therapy providers who are going out of network these days. In fact, going out-of-network can actually save you money. As a result, there are companies there to help patients with insurance reimbursement. Reimbursify is a great example of this. We recommend using Reimbusify to help with the process of getting money back from your insurance company. With Miller Physical Therapy, Every patient receives a coupon code to get five claims filed for free with the company after that, it's only $1.50. Conclusion Knowing where to find the best physical therapy in NYC can be challenging. Many clinics give you very limited time with your therapist. Others may not support a model that ensures accurate diagnosis and effective communication. Miller Physical Therapy is modeled to give all patients an effective and obligation free way to make sure you’re making the right choice. We offer free phone consultations and free “discovery” visits. These give you the chance to speak with a therapist, and learn what we can do for your specific case, without obligation. If we’re lucky enough to get to work with you, we’ll focus on making sure we have the most accurate diagnosis possible. We’ll listen to all your concerns and answer every question possible. Along the way, you’ll get targeted and effective hands-on manual therapy treatment to help you quickly recover from your pain or injury.
